Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project Coming to the Twin Cities October 3–8
On Sunday October 3, Twin Cities Habitat will kick-off the 2010 Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project with opening ceremonies in the Mall of America Rotunda. Then, on October 4, World Habitat Day, hundreds of volunteers from around the Twin Cities will begin working on 26 construction, rehab and repair projects that will highlight the importance of affordable housing to stable, thriving communities.
President and Mrs. Carter will join volunteer efforts in the Twin Cities on October 6th and 7th. The project is being co-chaired by Walter and Joan Mondale and Jim and Kathryn Ramstad.
“It is a privilege and an honor to host the Carters,” Twin Cities Habitat President Sue Haigh states. “Their presence here will give our mission new visibility and will galvanize our entire community around the notion that neighborhoods can be rebuilt and that neighborhood revitalization is vital to the health and success of our region.”
Twin Cities Habitat is one of four affiliates selected to host this 27th Annual Carter Work Project. The Carters will also work with volunteers in Washington, D.C., Baltimore/Annapolis, MD, and Birmingham, AL, building, rehabilitating and repairing 86 homes throughout the week in recognition of President Carter’s 86th birthday.
