The head of Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity says her organization is
responding to the foreclosure crisis by rehabbing existing buildings
rather than focusing solely on new construction.

		<title>A Brush with Kindness founders named &quot;Community Builders of the Year&quot;</title>
		<link>http://www.tchabitat.org/content/view/560/59/</link>
		<description>

Thanks to everyone that helped make this year&amp;rsquo;s Hard Hat Black Tie Gala the most successful fundraising event in Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity history. We were able to raise over $300,000 with over 500 people in attendance through corporate sponsorships, our live and silent auctions and generous donations from our supporters. The evening culminated with Gary Gardner and Gwen Leifeld accepting our 2008 Community Builder Award for their leadership in designing Habitat&amp;rsquo;s A Brush with Kindness Program.

		<title>A Brush with Kindness spells relief for St. Paul couple</title>
		<link>http://www.tchabitat.org/content/view/553/59/</link>
		<description>
Susan and Kevin Gundrum have never seen themselves as different. After getting married in 1998, they bought their house in West Saint Paul and like any ordinary couple they balanced work, bills and home maintenance.

But Susan and Kevin aren&amp;#39;t like every homeowner; they are both deaf.
They never saw this as a hindrance; instead they worked even harder to
succeed. But when Kevin injured his arm and lost his job, paying bills and keeping up with home repairs
became difficult.

Ask Phil Johnson and he&amp;#39;ll tell you: Builders aren&amp;#39;t buying lots.

The developer had sat on 30 lots left in Clover Field, a development in
Chaska, for a full year when -- at last -- Twin Cities Habitat for
Humanity approached him about four of them. That was in addition to
five other lots Habitat had bought from him a year earlier.
