We are entering our thirteenth year of hosting an AmeriCorps program. AmeriCorps is the national service initiative which provides community service opportunities to people of all ages and backgrounds. Members address problems related to education, public safety, homeland security, the environment and basic human needs.
We look for members who are:
- Dedicated to the missions of AmeriCorps and Habitat for Humanity.
- Enthusiastic about building a team that represents and promotes the AmeriCorps ethic of service.
- Committed to addressing the area’s affordable housing crisis.
- Able to handle a high level of responsibility.
DEVELOPMENT OF NEW SKILLS
Our members participate in a variety of training sessions to help them develop their service and workplace skills:
- One-on-one training with supervisor
- AmeriCorps Construction Training: One day per week in the fall and winter months, the AmeriCorps members develop their construction skills by working on a house together, directed by a site supervisor.
- CPR and First Aid
- AmeriCorps Team Building Activities
- Civic Engagement and Creating Social Change
Team-building is an important part of our program. We hold weekly meetings with the AmeriCorps team, plan and implement service projects in partnership with other non-profit organizations and participate in events with AmeriCorps members from around the state of Minnesota. AmeriCorps members will attend an orientation at the beginning of their service term at their respective organization, as well as participate in an end of the year event sponsored by ServeMN.
