Twenty years ago, Woodbury was mostly made up of farms and small neighborhoods. But today, the eastern suburb is quickly developing into a prosperous community. Woodbury already has more Habitat housing than any other suburb in the metro area. When fully completed, Bailey’s Arbor will be an 845-unit development. TCHFH will have 30 townhouses within the new community. Bill Hargis, the mayor of Woodbury, contacted TCHFH in 2003, because he wanted affordable housing to be available in the growing city. The 30 TCHFH units were built in three phases. During the first phase, TCHFH built a 10-plex. Twin Cities Habitat bought these units from Centex Homes - Minnesota at a discounted rate. Centex is the lead developer for the entire Bailey’s Arbor project. The second phase included a 4-plex that was built during a Builder’s Blitz by Andersen Corporation and Centex. TCHFH is currently in the final phase of its construction plan for Bailey’s Arbor. One 8-plex was completed this summer, and the other 8-plex is now under construction. The completed 8-plex is the single-largest structure that TCHFH has ever built on its own. The Bailey’s Arbor community will include single-family homes, carriage houses and townhouses. The area will feature extensive green space. There will be walking trails, gardens, an arboretum, and two recreation centers.
