Build, Think, Act

Working on a Twin Cities Habitat project for one day or several days throughout the year is a great opportunity for small companies and congregations, retiree groups, schools and civic organizations.  We would like to notify our supporters about an exciting new addition to our home building program.

As part of Housing Matters!, we've added a new feature to the group construction volunteer experience called Build, Think, Act.  This intiative was created in response to frequent requests from volunteers for more information about Habitat and the housing challenges in our community.  The typical volunteer day now focuses on three things:

Build

We will work together on constructing a Habitat home and gain a deeper understanding of how Habitat works.

Think

During one of the day’s breaks we’ll do an activity that gets us thinking and talking with each other about the housing challenges in our communities and the potential solutions.  We already know that Habitat alone can’t meet the needs of the 171,000 families who cannot afford the cost of their housing in the Twin Cities.  Housing everyone requires us to learn about and become engaged in a variety community solutions.

Act

During an afternoon break we’ll provide tools for staying engaged and continuing to support affordable housing beyond this volunteer day with Habitat.

Twin Cities Habitat is fortunate to have the support of thousands of compassionate, thoughtful, and hard-working volunteers. Build, Think, Act is designed to make the most of their time - by giving volunteers the chance to help construct a Habitat home and a chance to learn something that they can share with others. In doing so, we will create wider circles of understanding of the need for decent, affordable shelter for all people.
