Affordable Homeownership

Picture29.jpg

Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity builds and renovates homes in the seven-county metro area to help low-income families enter affordable homeownership and to engage communities in the importance of this work. Habitat works side by side with selected homebuyers, volunteers and staff to build single family, twin or multi-unit homes. Home sizes are typically about 1,400 square feet with two to five bedrooms.

All Habitat homeowners are:

  • Valued as local community members and long-term Habitat partners
  • Matched to homes by Habitat staff
  • Required to live in the Habitat homes
  • Prohibited from renting out Habitat homes
  • Expected to pay monthly costs that come with Habitat homeownership (i.e. Mortgage principal, taxes, insurance, maintenance, any association fees)
  • Responsible for outside and inside upkeep of the homes
  • Expected to participate in training and construction activities
