(MINNEAPOLIS, MN — April 21, 2006) As part of Habitat for Humanity International’s Operation Home Delivery, Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity is set to deliver 11 new homes to families in desperate need of housing in Mobile, Alabama, as a result of the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina.

Over the past few weeks, Twin Cities Habitat has been constructing six three-bedroom homes and five four-bedroom homes at its Northeast Minneapolis warehouse.  Volunteers have been constructing packages of interior and exterior framed wall panels, roof trusses, wall and roof sheathing, Andersen Windows, steel exterior doors, house wrap and roofing paper and hardware. These kits will be shipped by semi-truck in eight loads set to arrive by May 5, 2006, in time for a Blitz Build beginning May 8. “Brenda Carson-Lawless, executive director of the Mobile Habitat affiliate, is overjoyed about TCHFH’s partnership with her community,” said Sue Haigh, president, Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity. “When I spoke to her she said she feels blessed that we recognize their incredible need and have not forgotten about them.” In October 2005, four previous Operation Home Delivery houses were built at TCHFH’s warehouse in northeast Minneapolis. In late October, a special build was held at Upper Landing Park in St. Paul, where a fifth house was prepared—walls were raised, sheathing was added and trusses were erected by a large team of volunteers in conjunction with the NBC Today Show.  All five houses traveled by barge to Slidell, LA, where they were reassembled.
