Volunteer Service Description:

Volunteers from the Twin Cities community play an essential role in telling others the good news about Habitat for Humanity.  Presentations from Speakers Bureau members offer an opportunity to educate listeners on the work of Habitat for Humanity around the world, to expose myths surrounding affordable housing, and to invite listeners to participate in this great work through volunteerism, advocacy, donations, and other forms of support.

 Responsibilities:
  • Gain personal knowledge of the organization by volunteering one or more days on site
  • Stay current with Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity by studying available materials, websites, etc. 
  • Attend 4 TCHFH events a year (this includes 2-3 training events)
  • Give presentations, staff information tables, etc.

 Volunteer Impact:
Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity is able to grow and continue to serve more families as others in our community are informed about and engaged in this important work. By handling public engagements and PR opportunities, Speakers Bureau members keep the organization running smoothly by helping our staff save time.

Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in speaking before groups and a desire for learning to give presentations with ease and passion
  • Previous volunteer involvement with Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity
  • Recommendation from a TCHFH staff member

 

Time Commitment:
  • Semi-annual training/manual-updating meetings at Twin Cities Habitat office
  • Not to exceed more than 3 presentations per month (usually less than that)
  • One year minimum commitment
