Habitat builds first homes in Plymouth PDF Print E-mail

The affiliate is much more active than ever before in the suburban communities of the seven-county metro area.  The latest proposed development falls within the City of Plymouth, where Habitat plans to build a four-unit rowhouse. While TCHFH has never built previously in Plymouth, many volunteers and donors hail from the city and look forward to partnering with Habitat closer to home.

Twin Cities Habitat is going to build one of the four units as a fully ADA-compliant home that will abide by uniform federal accessibility standards and allow Habitat to partner with a family that has special needs regarding the physical and architectural layouts of the home. Specifics of the internal design will be finalized once a homebuyer family has been selected later this year.

The site lies south of Medicine Lake on land that will require extensive soil stabilization before construction can begin.  Both Hennepin County and the City of Plymouth have been very helpful in assisting Habitat with the extraordinary costs related to these challenges. Given the engineering specifications, these four homes will be more difficult to construct than a typical home, but Habitat staff look forward to the challenge as it anticipates building in another new community.

Construction could begin on the first units as early as the summer of 2007.
