Dear Friends,

We are delighted to present to you our new 2007-2010 Strategic Plan for Habitat. Over the course of the last year the Habitat Board and staff have held countless meetings.  We listened to our community of stakeholders, assessed the current market environment in the Twin Cities, and crafted ambitious goals so we can help provide more hard-working, low-income families with the dignity and pride of home ownership. To view the Strategic Plan, please go to our website at www.tchabitat.org or call the office and we will send you a copy.

This Strategic Plan begins with the idea that vision with action can transform the world. This belief informs our planning for the future and is at the heart of what we do. We seek to build in new ways and in new areas of the region; to connect Habitat homebuyers more surely to their communities; and to engage our communities in more profound ways.

This means that we will focus approximately 75 percent of our new building work in fast growing suburban communities where families have access to jobs, safe neighborhoods and quality schools.  In core city neighborhoods, we will still build some new Habitat homes, but our primary focus will be to partner with Minneapolis and St. Paul to retain and strengthen home ownership by expanding our A Brush With Kindness Program. We will also work with Minneapolis and St. Paul and other partners to identify existing homes in need of renovation and repair.  The homes would be sold to Habitat homebuyers to preserve home ownership in those neighborhoods threatened by extensive mortgage foreclosures.

At the core of our Strategic Plan are the following values that guide our work:

Our Values

FAITH IN ACTION—We are called by our faith in God to serve families in need with generosity, humility, and love.  We welcome people of all faith backgrounds and beliefs to join us in our common goal of eliminating poverty housing.

HOPE—We provide hope and opportunity for hard working families who seek a safe, welcoming home as a foundation for a life of well-being.  We provide hope and opportunity for all who seek to generously share their resources to build a just and equitable world.

COMMUNITY—We bring people from all walks of life together in partnership to build decent affordable housing, create community and transform lives.

INTEGRITY—We honor our commitments and we act with fairness, honesty, and respect in all of our relationships and in our stewardship of the resources entrusted to us.

PERSEVERANCE—We continually strive for excellence and innovation and to create a positive, enduring impact in all that we do.

Our Vision

Our Strategic Plan holds much promise for the Twin Cities, but this promise lies with you-- our longest and strongest supporters. We encourage you to think of new ways you can volunteer and contribute to Habitat to help us bring this plan to life. We are deeply grateful for the foundation you have provided for Habitat these past 20 years and hope you will help us create our vision for the Twin Cities for the next 20 years:

It is our belief that success for low-income families begins with stable, affordable housing. We see a Twin Cities region where hard-working families can own homes in healthy neighborhoods with access to jobs, transportation, and quality schools.

We will help bring the Twin Cities one step closer to making decent, affordable housing a matter of our collective character-by continuing to build and preserve homes, by supporting families and by engaging the community in our mission.

Warmly,

Sue
