Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity uses volunteer labor to build homes with low-income families. Construction Volunteers participate in the building of homes at all stages of construction. Volunteer ImpactConstruction Volunteers are essential for helping Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity achieve its mission. Those who participate in the construction of a home help to provide the opportunity for a family in need to have a decent and affordable place to call home. SkillsConstruction experience is useful, but a willingness to pitch in is the only requirement. Age RequirementsFor safety reasons, children under the age of 14 are not allowed on site. All volunteers under the age of 18 must have adult supervision from a parent or adult friend. Youth ages 14–15 must have one-to-one adult supervision. Youth ages 16–17 are required to have one adult for up to four youth. Time Commitment: LowestVolunteers should make a commitment of at least 4 full days in a calendar year. These days may be consecutive or sporadic. Construction Volunteers must volunteer on site for an entire workday. The workday usually runs from 8:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Opportunities for involvement are always available, but more flexibility in scheduling exists from October-April. Volunteers who make the "General Construction" time commitment must call the Individual Volunteer Coordinator for all their scheduling needs. Training and SupervisionVolunteers are required to attend an orientation session with the Individual Volunteer Coordinator. Construction training will occur on-site under the supervision of a Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity Site Supervisor or an AmeriCorps Construction Assistant.
