Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity uses volunteer labor to build homes with and for low-income families. Volunteers will help build in all stages of construction. Regular crews are groups of individuals who work with Habitat on a consistent weekly basis: either one or two days per week. Volunteer ImpactConstruction Volunteers are essential to help Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity achieve its mission. Those who help build a Habitat home provide the opportunity for a family in need to have a decent and affordable place to call home. SkillsNo special skills required. Age RequirementsFor safety reasons, children under the age of 14 are not allowed on site. All volunteers under the age of 18 must have adult supervision from a parent or adult friend. Youth ages 14–15 must have one-to-one adult supervision. Youth ages 16–17 are required to have one adult for up to four youth. Time Commitment: MiddleRegular volunteers work for an entire day on a site, once or twice per week. Currently regular crews work every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, depending on the crew. Crews generally work from 8:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Volunteers are asked to make an initial commitment of at least two full days per month. Opportunities are always available. A minimum commitment of four months is requested. Training and SupervisionVolunteers are required to attend an orientation with the Individual Volunteer Coordinator. Construction training will take place on site under the supervision of a Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity Site Supervisor or AmeriCorps Construction Assistant. Once the new volunteer has joined the crew on site, s/he will report to the regular Crew Leader and will move from site to site with that specific crew. The Crew Leader reports to the Site Supervisor, aTwin Cities Habitat for Humanity employee. Click here to sign up for a Volunteer Orientation. |
