Construction - House Month Volunteer PDF Print E-mail

Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity uses volunteer labor to build homes with and for low-income families. Construction Volunteers will participate in the building of homes at all stages of construction. House Month Volunteers will be assigned to one house for the duration of their volunteer commitment.

Volunteer Impact

Construction Volunteers are essential in helping Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity achieve its mission. Those who help build a Habitat home provide the opportunity for a family in need to have a decent and affordable place to call home. A House Volunteer will make a long-term commitment to a specific house and become a valuable assistant to the leadership team for that house.

Skills

No special skills are required.

Age Requirement

For safety reasons, children under the age of 14 are not allowed on site. All volunteers under the age of 18 must have adult supervision from a parent or adult friend. Youth ages 14–15 must have one-to-one adult supervision. Youth ages 16–17 are required to have one adult for up to four youth.

Time Commitment: Greatest

We ask that House Volunteers make a commitment of 3 or more days per week for at least 3 weeks. Volunteers must work on site for the entire workday. The workday generally runs from 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Please contact the Individual Volunteer Coordinator when your stint as a House Month Volunteer is finished, to enable other volunteers to participate at your site.

Training and Supervision

Volunteers are required to attend an orientation with the Individual Volunteer Coordinator. Construction training will occur on site under the supervision of a Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity Site Supervisor or an AmeriCorps Construction Assistant.
