Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity uses volunteer labor to build homes with and for low-income families. Mechanical subcontractors are needed to install the electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems in each home. New construction is 95% of our work, but there are occasional rehabs in progress. Volunteer ImpactMechanical subcontractors who donate either their labor or the entire job (materials and labor) save Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity thousands of dollars, providing the opportunity for more families in need to have a decent and affordable place to call home. Skill QualificationsTwin Cities Habitat for Humanity builds high-quality homes that meet or exceed building codes. Therefore, electrical, plumbing and HVAC subcontractors need to be licensed with the ability to pull all necessary permits and complete the job according to the standards in their field. Time CommitmentUsually, we schedule one to two weeks for mechanical rough-in after the house is framed, and a period near the end of construction for final installations. Depending on your field, you can expect to make two to four trips to site over the course of three to six months. We build year-round so opportunities for involvement are always available. The workday usually runs from 8:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Training and SupervisionWe have Site Supervisors assigned to each of our sites who are responsible for supervising general construction volunteers and coordinating the exact dates that they will be ready for you.
