Dear Friends: I begin my letter to you today with this poem: How would it be If just for today We thought less about Contest and rivalries, Profits and politics, Winners and sinners, And more about Helping and giving, Mending and blending, Reaching out And pitching in? How would it be? - Anonymous I can only respond by saying that today and every day Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity is how it would be. Each day volunteers, donors and Habitat families are helping and giving, mending and blending, reaching out and pitching in. The intentional, individual actions you each take with such love and care transforms the lives of Habitat for Humanity families and our neighborhoods, our communities and our world. Eliminating poverty housing in the Twin Cities and making decent affordable housing for all people a matter of conscience is only possible because of you—you choose to act, “reaching out and pitching in.” We are deeply grateful for your “helping and giving.” Poverty is on the rise not only in central cities, but in suburban communities, too. This summer, the Twin Cities will see more and more first time home buyers losing their homes because of escalating mortgage foreclosures and rising interest rates. Neighborhoods that previously blossomed and filled with new homeowner families, are now instead filled with vacant, boarded up properties that endanger the safety of all who still live there. The need for more affordable home ownership opportunities for families living in poverty has never been greater. We continue to need your faithful help. Please commit your time, your talents and your resources to our mission and help us to make the dream of home ownership a reality for more Habitat families. Warmly, Susan Haigh |
