On August 15, 2007, the Whispering Oaks manufactured home park was officially closed down. The Washington County Housing and Redevelopment Authority, owner of the land, decided to convert it into a mixed-use development with affordable and market-rate homes. The HRA wanted to redevelop the area because of continued infrastructure problems.
The county HRA worked with former residents of the home park to figure out moving options and relocation costs. The 20 Habitat for Humanity homes will be available to former Whispering Oaks residents if they’d like to move back, and if they meet certain conditions. |
