St. Paul and Minneapolis development associations merge (Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal) PDF Print E-mail

A new consortium of Twin Cities community organizations has banded together to address community development needs in the metro.

The new Metropolitan Consortium of Community Developers (MCCD) is the result of a merger by two local development associations, the St. Paul Coalition for Community Development and the Minneapolis Consortium of Community Developers, and is composed of 41 community organizations. The organizations included are various nonprofits, like Habitat for Humanity, several metro area neighborhood development organizations and culturally affiliated development groups, like the Latino and African Development Centers. A press release from the group detailed that the Metropolitan Consortium of Community Developers will focus on community needs by developing a variety of housing options, revitalizing urban commercial districts, and supporting and promoting neighborhood-based small businesses.

The organizations merging were founded in the early 1980s in response to the need of neighborhood-based community development corporations to work together on issues, by providing micro-loan funds, and assisting in the development and expansion of small businesses and the creation of new jobs in Minneapolis and St. Paul.
