Habitat for Humanity announced they were awarded $1.4 million from the Housing Finance Agency and the Family Housing Fund Tuesday.

Habitat for Humanity plans to use the money to buy land for future homes in Scott and Carver Counties.

"The greatest challenge is the cost of land, and so this award really allows us to react to this market," said Susan Haigh, President of the Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity.

Habitat for Humanity volunteers will begin to build homes on the land within the next two to three years.
