Huge gift to Habitat for Humanity (KARE-11) PDF Print E-mail

The day after Christmas is the perfect time to reflect on gifts given and those received. Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity is spending the day not just reflecting but celebrating a huge gift to the organization: a completely remodeled home.

"It's just a wonderful gift for Habitat. It's something that we've never had happen before, to have a house like this that is in perfect move-in condition", says Habitat Executive Director Sue Haigh.

The Richfield home was purchased last year by Larry Hossfeld. Hossfeld fixed up the home from top to bottom. He added a garage, put in new appliances and even a new furnace. Orginally Hossfeld planned to sell the home but after just a few months on the market he got a different idea.

"After a couple of months the thought just occurred to me, why not just go ahead and donate it to Habitat? I mean, I thought it would make me feel good, and it would definitely be good for Habitat and whatever homeowner ends up with this house", said Hossfeld.

It's not his first donation to Habitat for Humanity. Larry Hosfeld has been volunteering his time on job sites since 1990. The organization thinks he's likely worked on more than 100 homes and donated thousands of hours to their cause.

"I just wanted to make my own contribution in my own way", says Larry.

The Richfield home will officially become a Habitat home on Thursday. And, Larry's gift will soon become the starting point for a Minnesota family who couldn't otherwise afford to own a home.

Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity is currently accepting applications for Habitat families. A family will be chosen to fill the home in March.
