Andersen Corp. has 50 volunteers working for five days starting construction on five new townhomes in Oakdale, Minn. Part of the Red Oak Preserve, a new master-planned housing project, the homes will be affordable, market-rate housing for families in the area. In a partnership with Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity, Two Rivers Land Trust and Washington County, the homes will be part of the first buildings in the new development. They are located near the intersection of Highways 36 and 694 on 50th Street, formerly a mobile home park. Washington County and the City of Oakdale helped the residents of the mobile homes find new homes and opened the area up for redevelopment. The Andersen Corporate Foundation and the Andersen-related foundations also donated $100,000 and Andersen windows for the homes. This is the first project for Andersen volunteers since the completion of a five year, 100-home project with Habitat for Humanity that was finished in November. Red Oak Preserve will be a 126-unit, mixed-used, urban planned development including 25 affordable owner-occupied homes, 33 market-rate single-family homes and 68 units of affordable rental housing.
