Wouldn’t it be fun to bring together families, sponsors, volunteers, and Twin Cities Habitat staff all together to celebrate a finished home? It sure would! Here at Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity, we call those celebrations Home Dedications. During the Home Dedication, there is a short program in which the family, sponsor, site supervisor, and those involved in the homebuilding process share memories and gratitude for all the support and work involved in building the home. Prayers are shared, and each family receives a bible and a framed Golden Rule to have in their home. After each program there is time to socialize, eat cake, and tour the home. Each dedication is unique; every story, meal, and home is different, but one thing is guaranteed – it will be an inspiring, joyful event!

Gathered on the front porch and lawn on Saturady morning this dedication celebrated homeownership for 3 families. In the program we heard from Delilah as she shared what it means to her to own her own home, then the site supervisors to hear about life on site, and then Joe Ravens on behalf of Wells Fargo spoke on the sponsor side of this complex partnership. It takes all of us together, volunteers, sponsors, donors, staff, and partner families to make dreams become realities. The party continued from the front yard to the back yard as refreshments were enjoyed.
Thursday night in Minneapolis was a rainy evening, but that didn’t deter our celebrations. Congratulations to Esther and her two children on the purchase of their new home. Esther celebrated with friends, family and co-workers along with the many Habitat volunteers that were part of her journey toward becoming a home owner. The best part of the evening was when Esther arrived at the house with her two children who were unaware until that moment that they were moving into a new house. The kids were so happy and excited and it was a wonderful moment to be a part of.
June 16th- Crystal
Monday evening there was a party out in Crystal! We had much to celebrate as we dedicated one home. Cargill was a major sponsor of the home, and during the program we heard from an experienced volunteer, Roger Wherry, who is one of many retired Cargill employees that volunteer on our sites. The family shared thanks and delicious food with the gathered group. Mark Turbak spoke on behalf of Twin Cities Habitat and wrapped up his remarks with a challenge for those present, do to one thing for Habitat whether that be volunteering on site, recommending a friend, shopping at the Restore, donating, or hosting a build day. It was an inspiring night as we celebrated the family’s new home.

Over on Edmund Ave this weekend, Habitat staff, sponsors, volunteers, and the families’ family and friends celebrated the dedication of 2 homes. A beautiful rehab, the home dedicated on Thursday night showed the craftsmanship of the volunteers working with the site supervisor, Terra Lumley, to preserve and recreate the beauty of this home. Two volunteers that built on the home were recognized for their years of service. Together the volunteers, Habitat staff, and sponsors enjoyed a potluck meal in celebration of volunteer efforts and the family’s hard work in order to purchase this home.

May 17th- Woodbury
Saturday morning was another perfect morning for an outdoor dedication. We celebrated the purchase and completion of 4 homes in Woodbury. Volunteers from 3Mgives came to celebrate the finish of their hardwork and to welcome the families to these beautiful townhomes. This group of volunteers showed their passion for the work they do with Habitat. The inspiration continued as we heard words of welcome and congratulations from Rep. JoAnn Ward, State Sen. Susan Kent, and Mayor Stephens. It was a community event, full of memories, laughter, and celebration. Did I mention that there was also delicious sheet cake?!
April 26th- Cottage Grove
In Cottage Grove on Saturday Twin Cities Habitat dedicated 4 new homes! These homes are part of a development at Mississippi Dunes. A beautiful morning for a dedication this was our first outdoor dedication of the season. it wasn’t only outside though, guests were encouraged to go inside to tour the homes, especially to see the areas they built if they volunteered on site. Mayor Myron Bailey, Cottage Grove City Councilmember Jen Peterson, State Senator Katie Sieben, and State Representative Dan Schoen were all able to join us for the celebration and to welcome the families to the neighborhood.
March 25th-Brooklyn Center
Continuing with the dedication of Bank of America homes, volunteers, staff, family & friends, and sponsors gather in Brooklyn Center to celebrate the dedication of 3 homes. As usual there was cake, laughs, and memories. Congratulations to the 3 families, as they worked hard (like all of Habitat’s partner families) to purchase these homes!

February 25th- Chaska
A board member’s son put it perfectly when he said that out of all of his travels his favorite place was home. Last night we dedicated 3 homes in Chaska, as 3 families joined together with Habitat volunteers, sponsors, staff, family and friends to celebrate this milestone of owning their own homes. The host home was sponsored by Delta Air Lines, and at the dedication guests heard stories and shared gratitude from the sponsors, families, site supervisor, and volunteers on site. Children showed off their soon-to-be rooms, stories were shared, and cake was eaten!
January 25th- St. Paul
At the dedication in St. Paul last Saturday morning the children of the two families that will be neighbors explored, gave “tours”, drew pictures for Habitat’s New Home, and ate cake to celebrate their new habitat homes. Volunteers, family, friends, sponsors, and Habitat staff came together to dedicate the homes of the two families (pictured together on the right). Stories were shared during the morning’s program, and both Gary Erickson, Travelers, and Rhonda Thorson, Habitat, commented on the start of the building process as the heat made it interesting for the volunteers who worked on the start of these houses. As always no weather can hold back the determined volunteers that come to work on Habitat homes. Twin Cities Habitat’s President, Sue Haigh, also commented on the volunteer day of local CEO’s as these homes were the CEO Build site this year. She also read a note from Mayor Coleman that welcomed the two families to Saint Paul.
January 18th- St. Paul
The early morning snowfall on Saturday did not deter the family, friends, sponsors, and volunteers who came over to Annapolis Street to celebrate at the home dedication for the Ahmed family. One of the Site Supervisors spoke of the motivation his volunteers received from the frequent family visits to site, as they were encouraged by the family’s excitement and involvement. The sponsor for this home, Entrepreneurs House, exemplifies the great impact these businesses are able to make by joining forces to sponsor a home each year. The family shared how excited they were to have a home to call theirs. The Ahmed family home dedication was a lively celebration with family, friends, neighbors, and as usual, cake!
