Introducing A New Tithe Recipient: Ethiopia

Introducing A New Tithe Recipient: Ethiopia

Every year, Twin Cities Habitat “tithes” ten percent of all privately raised undesignated funds to support Habitat’s mission worldwide with a goal of eliminating poverty housing and homelessness.

ethiopia2Last week, the Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors approved a new distribution of our tithe dollars over the next two years. We are excited to announce that we will be sending 30% of our tithe to Ethiopia. The money will aid in a project called WaSH, which will connect 1,120 people to clean water and communal toilets in areas where Habitat builds homes.

Nearly half of the families that have bought Twin Cities Habitat homes since 2007 have roots in Ethiopia, which was an important factor in the decision to connect with the Habitat affiliate there. The other 70% of our tithe dollars will go to Costa Rica (30%), Haiti (18%) and Habitat for Humanity International (22%).

In addition to financial support, Twin Cities Habitat has sent participants to volunteer in tithe partner countries and plans to return to Costa Rica in 2014.
