Holy Hammers more than halfway complete on Twin Cities home

Work on the front and back porches and the garage will be the main focus for Holy Hammers this week, as contractors complete drywall taping inside.

“We’re all outside this week, so we’re hoping for good weather,” said Site Supervisor Rhonda Thorson. Volunteers were blessed with a mild sunny day Monday and also had a visit from Ergodyne, which supplies safety gear to Twin Cities Habitat.

Working alongside the volunteer crew was Rediatu Workneh, who will buy the Frogtown home with his wife and four children.

Though Rediatu has manual labor skills, he has also learned a lot on the construction site.

“Whatever they show me, I like to learn, because my job used to be welding, grinding and buffing metals,” he explained.

Workers will take a break for Memorial Day week, with volunteers returning on June 4 to complete indoor work and landscaping. More photos from the site.
