Outreach And Engagement Volunteers

While volunteering with Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity for many connotes a hard hat and a hammer, volunteers at Habitat play a large variety of roles. Just as Habitat does more than building homes in our hopes to empower communities, volunteers in our many programs all contribute to a larger goal. Habitat does not only build and repair homes—we partner with families to empower communities and we reach out to other communities to encourage more people to learn about our programs, opportunities, and the issues and import of affordable housing right here.  Since most people think of construction when they think of volunteering with Habitat, I wanted to take a moment to shine the light on some other volunteer opportunities that often do not get center stage. Here are just a few ways volunteers are involved in community outreach and engagement–sans duct tape name tags.

Volunteers lead youth workshops helping kids build Adirondack chairs through our Youth Engagement program. Volunteers are the face you see when you walk into our main building sitting at the front desk, always able to answer general questions and keep our office running smoothly. Volunteers hang out with our homeowner’s kids during community meetings for our Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative. Volunteers represent Twin Cities Habitat at various outreach events to recruit new volunteers for all of our programs. Volunteers don their green Housing Hero shirts and reach out to their representatives, tirelessly fighting for affordable housing funding. Volunteers help out weekly with data entry and other capacity-building projects in our office. Volunteers take professional quality photos for many different events to help us share our stories with all of you. Volunteers serve on our board and various committees putting in incredible time, energy, and insight into our programs.

Thank you to all of the volunteers who go above and beyond in outreach and engagement. You do phenomenal work and we at Habitat are incredibly grateful!
