Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity builds and rehabs homes throughout the seven-county metropolitan area. Habitat sells homes with an affordable, low-interest mortgage with a payment that is never more than 30% of a family’s monthly income at time of closing.


  • Live in the Twin Cities for at least one year.
  • Meet income guidelines and credit standards. No bankruptcy in the last two years.
  • Attend homeowner trainings.
  • Contribute 175-350 hours of work toward the construction of Habitat homes.
  • All Veterans are exempt from having to be first time homebuyers.

Apply for help with Home Repairs through A Brush with Kindness

A Brush with Kindness paints, repairs and restores homes of low income residents.


  • Home must be owner-occupied.
  • Home must have work that Habitat and its volunteers have the resources to complete.
  • Veteran Homeowners must have lived in their home for at least 1 year.
  • For extensive projects, homeowners may be asked to pledge financial assistance to a homeowner in need if they sell or refinance their home within 7 years.
  • Homeowner must be home at all times when volunteers are there working on the home.

Volunteer with Habitat

By volunteering with other Veterans on a regular basis, former military members regain a sense of purpose and develop supportive friendships. With the leadership skills they’ve gained in the military, they have a lot to offer to their communities.
