The Benefits of Serving with AmeriCorps

The Benefits of Serving with AmeriCorps

Serving as an AmeriCorps member for Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity has a variety of benefits that you might not be aware of. First and foremost, these are not volunteering positions and you do receive a living allowance for your work.

Additionally, upon the completion of your service term, you will receive the Segal Education Award. That award is approximately $6,895 for full-year members and $1,459 for summer members, which can be applied to existing or future student loans. Your existing student loans can also be placed in forbearance during your service.

As an Onsite Volunteer Facilitator, you will most likely receive a Habitat vehicle as well as clothing, tool, and cellphone allowances. You can even receive free Health Insurance as a result of your service. If you have children, then you may also be eligible for childcare reimbursement.

The benefits of serving go far beyond the various allowances. Having a job that you look forward to every day is a very rare thing to find. Especially one that provides so many opportunities to meet and connect with new groups of people. If you don't believe me, then maybe you'll listen to some of the past and current AmeriCorps members featured in our new video.

"It's really good professional development. I learned all of the things I thought was gonna learn. But also public speaking and problem solving. There's so much that can be transferred to any career afterward."

- Julia Schafer, Senior Engagement Associate and AmeriCorps Alum

"What I enjoy is being able to give back in a concrete way. I want to help build houses and help get families into safe and affordable living situations."

- Joey Ryan, AmeriCorps Member

We're currently recruiting for summer AmeriCorps terms beginning in June 2023, and full-year AmeriCorps terms beginning the September of 2023. Most positions involve facilitating volunteers in the field. Visit our AmeriCorps page for more info, or email AmeriCorpsProgram@tchabitat.org with any questions.
