Homebuyer Open House Host

Volunteers are needed to host open house events that allow Habitat homebuyers to view homes before choosing which one to purchase. Open House Hosts will open a Habitat home, answer homebuyer questions or direct them to appropriate Habitat staff, and tidy and secure the home at the end of the event. Meet and interact with Habitat partner families as they complete the final leg of their journey to homeownership!

Front Desk Volunteer

Front Desk Volunteers act as a first point of contact to clients, volunteers and visitors. Volunteers respond to inquiries by directing calls to appropriate staff members. Volunteers will also help save our staff time by handling small projects that keep the organization running smoothly. The Front desk is operational from 9:00am-5:00pm Monday-Friday. Volunteers are currently needed for the following shifts:

Maintenance Volunteers help maintain the appearance of our offices, meeting rooms, and furniture at our affiliate office in St Paul. Volunteers with experience in custodial work, simple repairs, and general mechanical knowledge are especially encouraged to apply!

Home Repair

We preserve homeownership by helping low-income homeowners repair and maintain their homes through our A Brush With Kindness program.

Homebuilding

We're best known for our Homeownership program where volunteers build and rehab simple, quality homes in partnership with low-income families and the community. No construction experience necessary. 

Spring/Summer schedule: Mon - Fri | 8:30am - 4pm
Fall/Winter Schedule: Tues - Sat | 8:30am - 4pm

  • One Day At A Time: Sign up for individual opportunities as they fit into your schedule. View our current One-Day opportunities.
  • Regular Crew: Volunteer a couple days a month (or more) with the same core group of volunteers.
  • House Month: Volunteer on-site at least three days a week for at least three weeks.
  • Women Build offers a unique approach toward achieving Habitat’s mission of eliminating poverty housing in the Twin Cities. At a Women Build construction site, not only do women provide the volunteer labor, from framing to landscaping, and the financial support, but each project is managed start to finish by an experienced woman site supervisor from the Twin Cities Habitat staff.

Age In Place

We will be working with low income senior families to help them achieve independent living in their homes. You can help with our Chore Services program as a part of the Age in Place program!

Flexible dates and times from mid-October through mid-November

  • Volunteer Leader: Be the leader in a crew of Chore Service volunteers. 1-2 service days per year.

ReStore

The Twin Cities Habitat ReStore is a home improvement outlet where quality new and like-new building and repair materials are sold at discounted prices. Unlike our construction opportunities, ReStore shifts are 3-4 hours long.

Tuesday-Friday
3 shifts: 10am-2pm, 12pm-4pm, 2pm-6pm
Saturday
2 shifts: 10am-2pm and 12pm-4pm

  • One Day At A Time: Sign up for individual opportunities as they fit into your schedule.
  • Sales Floor Regular: Keep the store stocked, looking good, and accessible for shoppers. Commit to volunteer at least once per week.
  • Regular Cashier: Provide customer service and help customers during checkout. Commit to volunteer at least once per week.
  • Donations Pick-Up Regular: Help us get more stock by riding along with and assisting the ReStore truck driver. Commit to volunteer at least one full day per week.
  • Donations Team: Be part of the ReStore team by helping them receive, assess, and record donations! This position is primarily computer based.


We currently operate two Twin Cities ReStore locations: 510 County Road D, New Brighton; and 2700 Minnehaha Avenue, Minneapolis

Events & Support

Throughout the year, Twin Cities Habitat works to engage volunteers and donors in a variety of events. 

Direct Outreach Volunteers attend various events around the Twin Cities and represent the organizationwhat we do, and how to get involved. 

Cookie Bakers provide treats in recognition of our volunteers on construction sites and at the ReStore.

Habitat Young Professionals plan all volunteer opportunities and networking events, cultivating organizational and individual partnerships to help grow the network, and sharing the HYPN mission with the greater Twin Cities community. Learn more about HYPN.

Youth Engagement

Habitat Youth Leaders are middle and high school aged youth that have a deep connection to Habitat and are interested in learning valuable leadership skills. Habitat Youth Leaders will volunteer with Habitat, fundraise on behalf of Habitat and educate family, friends and classmates about Habitat’s work in the Twin Cities.

 

Maintenance Volunteer

Maintenance Volunteers help maintain the appearance of our offices, meeting rooms, and furniture at our affiliate office in St Paul. This role helps us save our staff time by handling small projects that keep the organization running smoothly. Volunteers with experience in custodial work, simple repairs, and general mechanical knowledge are especially encouraged to apply!

Work will be assigned on a flexible weekly basis. Volunteers are asked to come in 3-4 times per month for 1-2 hours each time.
