Update 3- July 26, 2010bunny3

It’s the start of week eight, and the exterior of the house continues to progress. Siding was installed last week, transforming the look of the house, and site supervisor Eric Weatherman hopes to finish caulking and painting the exterior by the end of the day. While the team waits for some plumbing and electrical work, the next big project will be dismantling the old detached garage and pouring new slab for its replacement. Although logistics can be complicated on rehabs, work on this one is progressing nicely with the steady, ambitious help of local entrepreneurs.

Update 2 -June 30, 2010bunny4

Volunteers have been hard at work at this three story home in North Minneapolis. This week the team is at the front of the house, working on framing a large deck, stick framing the attic’s upper eaves, and reinforcing the second floor. Though the crew must hold off on siding as they wait for a special set of windows, AmeriCorps member Louis Kunesh acknowledges happily that, “There’s so much to do here.” Some next steps include finishing with the housewrap, applying sheathing, and setting up scaffolding for continued work on the home’s exterior.

Update 1-June 16, 2010bunny5

The rehab construction process is well on its way at the home on Fremont. Demolition is nearly finished, and volunteers this week have completed the reframing inside. This home rehab is definitely one of the more extensive projects that Twin Cities Habitat has taken on, but our volunteers have put in a great amount of effort thus far. Exterior sheathing is now going up, and site supervisor Craig Norton, who is subbing in this week for Eric Weatherman, says that they’ll begin applying house wrap within the week.
