Every year, the Raise the Roof Golf Tournament raises money to build nearly an entire home. Not a contribution toward a larger pot — a complete house, with an address, built for a family in the Twin Cities.
This July 27, Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity hosts the 31st annual Raise the Roof Golf Tournament at Minneapolis Golf Club. It’s a special way to support Twin Cities Habitat’s mission while enjoying the summer season. If you've never attended, or if you're looking for a reason to come back, here’s what you need to know.

Raise the Roof started more than 30 years ago as a way to bring the Twin Cities business community together around Habitat's mission. The event includes 18 holes of scramble play at Minneapolis Golf Club, followed by the 19th Hole Happy Hour for golfers, guests, and Habitat supporters.
Nick Walton, President and CEO of Reuter Walton Development and the tournament's lead sponsor for nearly 10 years, says, "In one day of golf and fun, we raise enough money to build an entire house for a family that needs it. We even know the address of each house we create each year."
Sponsors and golfers can see exactly where their dollars go after each event. As lead sponsor, Reuter Walton's participation has been key to funding a complete home each year of their involvement.
Pictures of those homes sit on a wall in Reuter Walton's office, "and I love to look at them and imagine them being lived in."
Raise the Roof draws from Minnesota's business and professional community. Walton has spent years helping recruit sponsors.
"We remind them that we can all get together for a fun day of golf, write a few checks (which qualify as tax-deductible), and if we all participate, the outcome is another new home that will be around for 100+ years, offering an affordable home for hard-working families."
The golf tournament gives sponsors a reason to gather, an accessible price point, and an easy way to fill a Monday afternoon. The 19th Hole Happy Hour continues with live music, exclusive silent auction items, and a chance to hear inspiring words from a Habitat homeowner.
"For nine years straight, hearing the story of an existing Habitat homeowner, someone who lives in one of the houses built in prior years, has been, by far, my favorite part of the day."
Affordable housing, Walton says, is something his team thinks about every day at Reuter Walton. Raise the Roof is a different expression of that same commitment.
"Affordable housing is crucial for everyone," he says. "Without it, we don't have much of a society."
This year's tournament marks Walton's final year as lead sponsor. Bridgewater Bank steps into the lead sponsor role for 2027, and Walton is confident the event is in good hands. His hope for Raise the Roof going forward is that it keeps going, keeps growing, and that the community continues to show up the way it always has.
Raise the Roof’s 19th Hole Happy Hour provides an opportunity for non-golfers to get in on the fun. It’s a time to socialize, enjoy good food, view and bid on exclusive silent auction items, and connect with supporters.
19th Hole Happy Hour tickets are $15 and include complimentary appetizers and a drink. Whether you’ve been to a Habitat event before or this is your first time, we’re happy to welcome you and show you what Habitat is all about. Register today!
