We celebrated our 2,000th home closing, marked the third year of our groundbreaking Advancing Black Homeownership program, and completed and surpassed our landmark Build Forward Together fundraising campaign goal. Along the way, we welcomed the first families to The Heights, opened a third ReStore, helped secure passage of the bipartisan HOA Bill of Rights, and so much more.

That’s why Twin Cities Habitat keeps building homes across the region. We broke ground in Minnetonka and welcomed the first families to The Heights, our largest development ever in Saint Paul. In fact, thanks to your commitment, more than 2,000 families have become homeowners since our founding, experiencing the comfort, security, and generational impact that comes with homeownership.

Spotlight: The Heights

The Heights is helping address Minnesota’s housing shortage by creating nearly 150 affordable homes on Saint Paul’s Greater East Side. As the largest development in Twin Cities Habitat’s history, the project has reached a major milestone: 74 Habitat homes are now built or under construction, bringing our work at The Heights to nearly 50% completion. Most importantly, more than 20 families have already moved into their new homes, including participants in Habitat’s Advancing Black Homeownership program. What was once a vacant golf course is quickly transforming into a thriving neighborhood through strong community partnerships, public-private investment, thousands of volunteer hours, and the generosity of dedicated donors.

Spotlight: New ReStore in Brooklyn Park

In October, we gathered for a special celebration: Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity's third ReStore home improvement outlet opened in Brooklyn Park! The Grand Opening weekend was a success, with an incredible turnout from supporters, donors, community members, and partners.

ReStore is more than a store. It's an investment in the community that creates jobs, drives economic activity, and attracts shoppers and donors from across the metro. It’s a place where residents can volunteer, give back, and keep usable items out of the waste stream. And every donation and purchase supports affordable housing. The new ReStore in Brooklyn Park means that more local families will have the opportunity to experience the safety and comfort of home.

Home is transformational.

But for too many families in our region, it's out of reach. Last year, we continued our commitment to build a vibrant and equitable Twin Cities. Our approach is intentional and innovative to meet the moment—because every family deserves a foundation to build a future on and a place to call home. From advocating for neighbors to providing financial resources, lending, and homebuyer support, we’re using every tool in our toolbox to expand access to attainable homeownership—especially for those who have faced longstanding barriers.

Our work today is laying the foundation for tomorrow’s transformation.

Spotlight: New Solution, New Scale

Expanding access to affordable homeownership includes building homes—and so much more. Last year, TCHFH Lending, Inc.—Twin Cities Habitat’s certified Community Development Financial Institution subsidiary—vastly broadened their role administering down payment assistance (DPA) throughout the region. By offering support to homebuyers outside of our direct Habitat programs, including via powerful partnerships in our community, we’re finding innovative ways for more families to experience the power of home. Through the First-Generation Homebuyer Community DPA Fund and Advancing Black Homeownership Community Fund, we’ve significantly increased impact: more than 390 additional families became homeowners.

Advocacy Paves Way for Sweeping HOA Reform

Together, we achieved a major victory this year for homeowners across Minnesota. While an estimated 1.5 million Minnesotans live in communities governed by one of the state’s 8,000 homeowner associations (HOAs), too many lack adequate protections when disputes or challenges arise. Working alongside Habitat homeowners, we uncovered significant gaps in oversight and accountability—but this community stepped up to elevate the need for reform. Through community organizing, legislative testimony, and homeowners sharing their experiences, we showed why HOA reform matters.

Twin Cities Habitat co-led a multiyear advocacy effort with the Minnesota Homeownership Center and Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid, resulting in passage of Minnesota's HOA Bill of Rights. The sweeping policy legislation strengthens transparency requirements, limits excessive fines, provides protections against unnecessary foreclosures, and establishes important safeguards for homeowners statewide. Passed with broad bipartisan support, this landmark law is helping ensure homeownership is more stable, equitable, and secure for generations to come. Spotlight: Twin Cities Habitat Surpasses Campaign Goal

Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity’s Build Forward Together campaign set out to achieve something unprecedented—and our community delivered. In 2022, we launched the largest fundraising campaign in our history with an ambitious goal of raising $80 million to expand homeownership, advance racial equity, and deepen community engagement. Four years later, we exceeded that goal together, raising more than $86 million!

What seemed ambitious became possible thanks to you. This extraordinary achievement is already helping scale affordable homeownership opportunities, expand the impact of our Advancing Black Homeownership program, and strengthen communities across the metro. We are grateful for your ongoing partnership—and are committed to carrying this momentum forward.

Spotlight: The Comfort of a Mother's Home

For Habitat homeowners like Linda, having space to thrive impacts generations. When Linda left a relationship and moved with her children back home to Minnesota in 2024, she had one destination in mind. Her mom, Norma, bought a Habitat home in 2019. Arriving at her mom’s house, Linda felt relief. Instead of stressing about finding a place to stay, she started saving for her own home. Then in 2025, Linda closed on a house in Cottage Grove, providing her kids with the same thing her mom gave her: the comfort of home.

“I feel safe and secure for myself and for my kids,” she says. “My house reminds me of how far I’ve come, and it reminds me that better things are coming.” Read Linda’s story!
