ABWK Lends a Helping Hand

ABWK Lends a Helping Hand

Dean Lindberg has lived in his South Minneapolis home for the past 14 years. Shortly after purchasing his home, Dean’s income as a commercial artist plummeted, and the repairs his home needed started to mount. Keeping up with the maintenance his home required became difficult, and eventually the problem of peeling paint around the garage and house trim caused Dean to worry the issue would lead to structural problems.

Dean's Home Before ABWK work

Without much practical experience or the resources to hire a contractor, Dean felt overwhelmed and anxious about the future of his home. After conducting some research on the Internet, Dean found Habitat for Humanity’s website, which in turn led him to the A Brush with Kindness (ABWK) program. After applying and being accepted to receive help from ABWK, Dean was thrilled and extremely thankful.

Dean recalls having an immensely positive experience working alongside ABWK volunteers and the Americorps team to repair his home.

Dean's Home After ABWK work

“I cannot say enough about how professional and helpful the Habitat, Americorps and all the volunteers are. It is very hard for me to get stuff done on my own sometimes, and having such wonderful people around gave me a gigantic energy boost”.

Now that Dean has learned more about prepping and painting, he is eager to do more on his own. Dean’s experience with ABWK gave him the motivation to keep improving his home to make it as nice as possible.
