Affordable housing to be pushed at State Capitol Tuesday

The 3rd annual Habitat on the Hill – Minnesota event is Tuesday, April 17th from 9am-4pm. Regular citizens from around the state, acting as advocates for affordable housing, will meet with lawmakers and hold a mass “Homes for All Rally” in the Capitol Rotunda at 2pm.

The 100+ advocates will ask lawmakers to include support for affordable housing in any potential bonding bill. The funding would go towards repairing public housing, building new affordable rental units and mitigating the impact of the foreclosure crisis on Minnesota communities.

Advocates will gather at the Minnesota History Center in the morning and hold meetings with lawmakers in the afternoon before the 2pm rally. Habitat homeowners and representatives from Habitat affiliates around Minnesota will take part and be available for interviews.

Speakers at the rally will include:
Sue Haigh, President of Twin Cities Habitat
Rev. Canon Peg Chemberlin, Executive Director of the MN Council of Churches
Rep. Alice Hausman (DFL – St. Paul)
Rep. Larry Howes (R – Hackensack)
Rep. Paul Thissen (DFL – Richfield)
Sen. Jeff Hayden (DFL – Minneapolis)
Sen. Jeremy Miller (R – Winona)
