Owning a home is an exciting milestone, but it's also the beginning of a lifelong journey of learning. Whether it's patching drywall, using a power drill for the first time, or figuring out how to maintain your yard, every homeowner encounters new projects along the way. Now, Twin Cities Habitat is excited to introduce a new way for our Habitat homeowners to learn, connect, and build confidence and relationships.

Station Learning takes everything homeowners love about Volunteer and Learn—hands-on instruction, expert guidance, and opportunities to connect—and packages it into a fun, welcoming, and approachable experience.
Previously, Twin Cities Habitat offered skill-building days for homeowners where they could spend the day on a Habitat build site and learn alongside our field staff. But we learned that a full day on a construction site wasn't the right fit for many homeowners.
Rather than sticking with a format that wasn't meeting our homeowners' needs, we listened. And that's how Station Learning was born.
Station Learning events are three hours and held at Twin Cities Habitat's Minneapolis warehouse. Events highlight a variety of interactive learning stations, and lunch is included.
Every learning station focuses on a different home maintenance or DIY skill. Homeowners spend about 20 minutes at each station before rotating to the next one, giving everyone the opportunity to learn a variety of practical skills in one morning.

Each station was led by experienced Habitat field staff or Habitat partners who demonstrated techniques, answered questions, and encouraged homeowners to try the skills themselves.

One of the biggest surprises from the first Station Learning event wasn't just how much people learned—it was how much fun they had!
More than 20 Habitat homeowners attended the inaugural event, rotating through the stations in small groups. The atmosphere was relaxed, welcoming, and full of conversation.
There was plenty of laughter, and opportunities to ask questions without feeling overwhelmed. Homeowners exchanged ideas, shared stories about projects they wanted to tackle at home, and discovered they weren't alone in learning the ins and outs of homeownership.
The smaller groups created an environment where everyone felt comfortable participating, regardless of their experience level.

Volunteer and Learn is all about helping homeowners feel confident in caring for their homes, creating connections with other homeowners, and continuing our partnership long after move-in day. It's also a program that replaced Twin Cities Habitat's sweat equity requirement for new homebuyers.

Online webinars cover a variety of homeownership topics such as homeowners insurance, escrow and taxes, and how to create a budget.
Summer barbecues or group visits to ReStore allow Habitat homeowners to connect in a fun, casual environment.
