EpiscoBuilders and Breck School tackle rehab in Brooklyn Park

EpiscoBuilders and Breck School tackle rehab in Brooklyn Park

Brooklyn Park homesFor the past month or so members of the EpiscoBuilders have been busy bringing life back to a home once vacant and left in foreclosure. Volunteers have torn down and replaced old, dilapidated siding as well as installed new windows and doors.

Looking for a way to highlight affordable housing needs, longtime Habitat volunteer Bruce Moulton and others from St. Martin’s Church formed this Christian-based outreach program. The idea behind it was simple; create a coalition of Episcopal churches in the west metro and partner with Twin Cites Habitat for Humanity to build and rehab homes. The organization spends the majority of its time and energy fundraising for potential projects and organizing volunteers to help on upcoming builds.

Volunteering in Brooklyn Park“As one of the founders of this program I’m really proud of the strides we’ve made over the years,” said Moulton. “My favorite part of this whole thing is working alongside the homeowners and seeing their excitement along the way.”

Joining the EpiscoBuilers on site for the next two weeks are juniors and seniors from Breck School. Their volunteer time is going towards school credit as part of May program. This initiative calls for students to pursue an internship or conduct some type of service work the last two weeks of the school year. The group from Breck will spend the majority of their time painting the interior bedrooms and trim on the outside of the house.
