Announcing $1M in Grants to 16 Partner Housing Organizations

Announcing $1M in Grants to 16 Partner Housing Organizations

TCHFH Lending, Inc., the lending subsidiary of Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity, is pleased to announce a total of $1,000,000 in grants it has made to 16 partner nonprofit organizations. These grants leverage a 3-to-1 match from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines (FHLB Des Moines) and its Member Impact Fund. We're proud to have the unique opportunity to make grants to organizations working to expand homeownership access, build community, and advance racial equity.

“We are thrilled to participate in the Member Impact Fund to support Minnesota-based nonprofits that make our state more vibrant, equitable, and resilient,” said Robyn Bipes-Timm, President of TCHFH Lending, Inc. and Chief Strategy and Operations Officer of Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity. “As a Community Development Financial Institution member of FHLB Des Moines, we combined support from longtime philanthropic partners with 3-to-1 matching funds from FHLB Des Moines to give nearly $1,000,000 in one-time capacity building grants. These grants strengthen affordable housing and community development partner organizations at a critical time, as their work aligns with our mission to create homeownership and advance equity in housing.”

The one-time grant recipients include intermediary partners who support expanding homeownership, such as the Minnesota Homeownership Center, Habitat for Humanity of Minnesota, the Minnesota Community Land Trust Coalition; as well as nonprofit partners of the Advancing Black Homeownership Community Fund; and equity partners like Black Men Teach and Northside Achievement Zone, among others.

Celebrating Homeownership Month

These grants come at a meaningful time—June is National Homeownership Month, a time to uplift the value of owning a home. At Twin Cities Habitat, we believe that homeownership is a foundation for thriving families, strong neighborhoods, and equitable communities.

These grants invest in the housing ecosystem in Minnesota and move us one step closer to our vision of a community where everyone has the opportunity to own a home and build generational wealth.

FHLB's Member Impact Fund

FHLB Des Moines provides funding solutions to more than 1,200 members to support mortgage lending, economic development, and affordable housing in the communities they serve. The Member Impact Fund provides FHLB Des Moines members up to $3 for every $1 in matching grant donations to strengthen the ability of not-for-profits or government entities to support the needs of their communities.

“The Member Impact Fund continues to be a powerful resource in supporting our members as they expand access to affordable housing and drive community development,” says Kris Williams, president and CEO of FHLB Des Moines. “It’s inspiring to see the partnerships centered around improving local communities in such a variety of ways.”

This matching grant program has resulted in FHLB Des Moines awarding $20 million in funding to support affordable housing and community development in Minnesota.

Since its founding in 2023, the Member Impact Fund has supported affordable housing and community development with nearly $70 million in grants awarded by FHLB Des Moines. Member institutions apply and receive Member Impact Fund matching grants to be distributed to eligible organizations alongside their own grant contribution.
