Home Dedication: Two Families, One Dream

Home Dedication: Two Families, One Dream

This past Thursday, Twin Cities Habitat celebrated two partner families who are about to move in to their new Habitat homes.

The families being celebrated overlapped in a couple of ways: both homes were constructed by Site Supervisor, Jake Kirchgessner, and both locations were sponsored by Thrivent Financial. Most importantly, both families partnered with Twin Cities Habitat, achieving their dream of homeownership and providing a safe place for their family.

Homeowner Munira is looking forward to moving into her new home with her children. “Thank you so much, I am so happy,” she said, as she wiped away tears from her eyes. The second homeowner, Fiseha, was thrilled to be celebrating his accomplishments with his daughters: “Thank you for what you are doing for low-income families.”

The sponsors on the hosting home were Thrivent Financial and United Properties. Thrivent representative Dawn Clarin was happy to show her support for the new homeowners. “Thrivent is a proud sponsor and partner with Twin Cities Habitat. This [home dedications] is one of my great joys of the job. Being a part of Thrivent, we have the opportunity to give back and we believe in what Habitat does.”

Eric Skalland is the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of United Properties, and has been tasked with revamping United Properties' charitable program. They provided volunteers out on site and continue to support Habitat’s mission. “You guys are the best in the business!”

Twin Cities Habitat’s Senior Director of Resource Development, Kate Loe, presented the families with Golden Rule plaques. She shared how she started her day by bundling her children up as they left for school. As they went outside in the below zero temperatures, her daughter mentioned how happy she was they have a warm home to come back to. “I have been reflecting on this dedication all day. As a staff member, it’s so humbling to come here and celebrate.”

At Twin Cities Habitat, we feel blessed to work with amazing partner families. Best of luck to Munira and Fiseha!
