September 28 to October 10, 2012
Twin Cities Habitat staff members are leading a group of 18 volunteers to the province of Gaza, located north of the capital city of Maputo. Team members will have the opportunity build a safe, decent and affordable home alongside a partner family and learn about the current need for affordable housing in Mozambique. Team members will spend roughly 7 days working alongside Habitat for Humanity Mozambique homebuyers and staff towards the completion of a new home. We will eat typical Mozambican food, get a chance to experience daily life in Mozambique and meet the local Habitat staff and home-buying families. This truly is a one-of-a-kind experience! Click below to watch a brief video of our Global Village trips.
The estimated cost per participant is $1,750 plus airfare. The team will be led by two experienced Habitat Global Village Team Leaders. There are not any language requirements to participate—interpreters will be provided! Your costs will cover (among other things) food, lodging, in-country transportation, interpreter fees, and the great experience getting to know the families in Mozambique.
We are excited to see the work that Habitat for Humanity Mozambique is doing first-hand. Habitat Mozambique is a rapidly expanding program particularly focused on providing housing in partnership with the most disadvantaged groups. A significant element of the program is emergency housing for orphans and vulnerable children, who have lost one or both parents, usually to HIV/AIDS.
If you are interested in joining the team or would like to see a tentative itinerary, please contact us at 612-305-7161 or via email at cristen.incitti@tchabitat.org. If you are ready to sign-on now, a non-refundable $500 deposit will reserve your spot on the trip.
