Senator Franken helping mark 900th family milestone

Event: Twin Cities Habitat will dedicate 7 homes with a celebration and mark the 900th local family to buy a safe, decent, affordable home since the organization began in 1985.

When: Saturday, March 24th at 10AM

Where: The Garden Gate Development located at 596 Gateway Place, Woodbury 55129.

Who: Speakers will include US Senator Al Franken, Woodbury Mayor Giuliani Stephens, Twin Cities Habitat CEO Susan Haigh. Those in attendance will include homebuyer families, Habitat volunteers and other public officials.

This event is free and open to the public. Lunch will be provided by the homebuyer families. Reporters will have the chance to interview Habitat volunteers and homebuyers (and watch really excited kids check out their new rooms for the first time).

Event Background:
Twin Cities Habitat is celebrating having helped more than 900 local families purchase safe, decent, affordable homes over the past 25 years. Today thousands of Twin Cities children are growing up in stable homes thanks to the millions of hours worked by Habitat volunteers. Statistically these children are more likely to do well in school, lead healthier lives and be less reliant on welfare.
Over the years, thousands of additional families have benefited from Twin Cities Habitat’s other home-focused programs which include: Mortgage Foreclosure Prevention, A Brush with Kindness (home repairs) and housing advocacy. It is appropriate that Twin Cities Habitat is hitting this milestone with homes build in Woodbury since more than 50 Twin Cities Habitat families live there (the third highest total behind only Minneapolis and St. Paul).

About Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity:
Our mission is to eliminate poverty housing from the Twin Cities and to make decent, affordable shelter for all people a matter of conscience. An award-winning nonprofit housing developer, Twin Cities Habitat is committed to building the quality of life, health and economic prosperity of the region by producing, preserving and advocating for affordable homeownership – because homes and families are the foundation of successful communities. www.tchabitat.org
